Thule Awning Sizing & Product Features

Thule Awning Size Selector

Diagram showing where to measure a van roof for wall, roof and rail mounted Thule awnings

There are three types of mounting available for Thule awnings, and the tables further down show exactly which awnings suit each one. Here's a quick summary first:

Wall

The most common installation. The flat adapter is normally included.

Roof

Mounted on top of the vehicle for a neater, integrated look and more space underneath. A handy option if wall space or width is tight.

Rail

Not a permanent fixing, so it's the easiest to install as no adapter is needed.

Length

The length of the awning is a key factor in which Thule awning ranges are available. Ranges cover a minimum size of 1.90m up to 6.00m. Here's what to check depending on your mounting type:

  • Roof — measure the straight space between roof curves where the adapters will be fitted.
  • Wall — allow at least 10cm of space to avoid lights and ventilation caps, and make sure the door can still open under an extended awning.
  • Rail — measure the length of the rail itself to determine the awning length.

Projection

Projection is the depth of the awning, and it defines how big an area it will cover. Most awnings are available in two or three projection sizes, depending on length.

Colour

The Thule awning range comes in four cassette colours, so it's easy to match or contrast the awning with your caravan or motorhome.

Fabric materials

Thule Omnistor awnings use a higher quality fabric than many other brands, built to last. It's printed on both sides and made up of five layers:

  1. Top coat of PVC (protects against scratching and fading)
  2. Vinyl with painted pattern
  3. High-strength polyester scrim
  4. Vinyl with painted pattern
  5. Top coat of PVC (protects against scratching and fading)

The coating on both sides keeps the colour fixed, watertight, washable and durable, and it improves the fabric's scratch, UV and heat resistance. It can even be rolled away for a few days while still wet, and the welded joints keep it properly waterproof.

Weight

Thule awnings typically weigh less than competing brands, with full weights for each range in the Thule Awnings brochure. Weight depends on the size of the awning (length and projection) and whether a motor is fitted, and it mainly matters if your vehicle's weight is close to its Maximum Technically Permissible Laden Mass (MTPLM).

Thule Awning Size and Colour Selector

Choosing an awning involves a few different variables, so here's the full Thule Omnistor range broken down by size and colour, grouped by mounting type.
