What to think about before you buy

The Transit Custom comes in a few different shapes, so a little checking now saves any hassle later. Three things matter:

Your model year. There are two generations: the 2013 to 2023 Transit Custom (and Tourneo Custom), and the all-new MK2 from 2024 onwards. They take different kits, so it is worth knowing which you have.

Your length and height. Transit Customs come in short wheelbase (L1, around 4970mm) and long wheelbase (L2, around 5340mm), and in standard height (H1, around 2000mm) and semi-high (H2, around 2360mm). This decides both the awning size and the mounting brackets you need.

Your roof. Fixed roof or elevating pop-top - both are well catered for in the kits below.

The best awning for a Ford Transit Custom: the Thule Omnistor 4200 kit

Getting the size right

The kit configures the correct awning to your van size automatically once you select your options:

Not sure of your dimensions? Just contact us and we will confirm the right kit. It helps to measure your van from the ground to the roof line (that tells us your "H" height version) and nose to tail for the length - though most owners already know whether they have a short or long wheelbase.

Mounting options

How the awning fixes to your Transit Custom depends on the roof height:

• H1 (standard height) vans can use either a Thule adapter and awning, or a Vamoose Multirail with brackets and awning. The Multirail is a great choice if you would also like a rail to attach a driveaway tent or sun canopy in future.

• H2 (semi-high) vans use the flat adapter plates supplied with the awning plus specially designed brackets to match the higher roof profile.

Which awning kit do I need - MK1 or MK2? 

If your van is a 2013 to 2023 Transit Custom, choose the standard 4200 kit. If it is a 2024-onward MK2, choose the MK2 kit.

Will it fit my high-roof (H2) Transit Custom? 

Yes. H2 vans use the supplied flat adapter plates with specially designed brackets to suit the higher roof. Tourneo Custom vans are covered too.

What size awning do I need? 

SWB (L1) vans take the 2.6m awning and LWB (L2) vans the 3.0m. If you are unsure - especially whether you have an H1 or H2 roof - measure from the ground to the roof line and contact us; we will confirm the right kit.

Can I add a tent or sun canopy later? 

Yes. If you choose the Vamoose Multirail option, you will have a rail ready for a driveaway tent, Rain Blocker room or sun canopy down the line.

Can I fit it myself? 

Many customers do. If you would prefer, we can arrange professional fitting through our nationwide network of approved installers.
